Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hello,

I don't know if I am doing this right, sending a message like this.

I have never done anything like this before.I don't even know why I am nervious.

I was diagnosed with BPD twenty years ago.

I feel like it's only the last few years that I feel normal, well almost.

I also have anxiety disorder but over the years with counciling that is hardly a problem anymore.

At the start of the BPD they had me on all sorts of drugs and high doses.

My hair started to fall out and I lost all my beautiful teeth.

My partner of 13 years walked out and I spent three months in a unit.

That's when they started me on medication [edited by moderator] and a very good antidepressant.

The medication [edited by moderator] stabilisers the mood swings and I felt like I regained mt life.

I went back to my photography, did 3 years at Uni. and back to my interests.

But like most BPD sufferers it's like a rollercoaster.

So right now I am living with my son who has an undiagnosed mental health condition,

and is an alcoholic and most times is unbalanced. I feel like I am going backwards.

I have tried to carefully help him but to no avail.

There have been some explosive confrontations.

I am very open to hear stories of others and advice to.

Many thanks.

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hi @Boomer ,

Welcome to the forums. Thank you for taking the time to share @Boomer . It sure sounds like you've been through a fair bit to get yourself to where you are now.

Just to clarify, when you posted about BPD, do you mean bipolar or borderline personality disorder? Only because the medication you are describing is not normally prescribed for borderline personality disorder itself.

Besides that, I'm sorry to hear about your son. I can see you are doing your best to help him. Do you feel he is safe?

Also, a quick note, moderators have had to edit out the medication name so that your post aligns with Community Guidelines around not naming medication. You can read these guidelines here: https://saneforums.org/t5/help/faqpage/title/community-guidelines

Please know you are not alone. There are many carers out there who can provide insight into how they have supported their loved ones.

@Shaz51 , anyone you can tag?

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hi @Boomer I recently had to live with my son for 4 months on and off while he was in psychosis. He's in his thirty's. I found I had to detach from him in a mother's way. Walking around on eggshells, not knowing what is coming next, the atmosphere that you can cut with a **** is really hard to live with. How explosive are the confrontations? Are you safe? Now that the voices have calmed down, my son started drinking again. It's always alcohol or drugs! I found that he didn't want my opinion or help. It's hard to pick the right moment to say something. It sounds like you've done some work on yourself. Good on you! What type of things do you like to photograph? 🙃

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Many thanks,
I have Bipolar disorder, I used to have Agoraphobia, six years of intense counselling
and it was worth the pain to have my life back. But then my son moved in and I feel smothered, constantly watching what I say and do. He says nasty things all the time to me and I start to become ill and then all hell breaks loose. Only twice I felt it was becoming dangerous. Mostly from me and I have had to lock myself in my room for days. seems better lately, A line has been drawn.

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hi, I know exactly what you went through. I was walking on egg shells with my son to. Not so much now. It has taken a while but we have drawn a line in the sand. I love him and dont think I could abandon him. Only once I thought it might get violent, But mostly from me, my Bipolar tends towards aggressive and potentially violent. But it takes alot to get me there, years of help have trained me to notice the signs. I have been a nature photographer for thirty years. My favourite so far is photographing the Komodo Dragons on Komodo Island. I did some work for the Government taking photographs of the Dingoes , that was on my bucket list.
Thank you heartathome.

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Thankyou for the add x I'm very well thanks and although the grand final was a let down I have been doing more walking. I struggle through winter to leave my bed and house as I hate the cold but now spring has come and the weather is somewhat better i have been able to walk much more in the forest nearby with my dogs and partner xox
