Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

@Shaz51

Unfortunately no fur babies, I would like one, they are great conversation starters

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

@tyme

I will become more involved as time goes by, it won't take long. I'm enjoying the interactions.

However, I find it a bit daunting.

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

@GravelGrinder I feel the same. Not sure how to start a conversation (even in real life!)

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

How have I become a senior contributor?

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hey @EzW @GravelGrinder ,

When I think back to when I first connected, I realised I had a connection with someone's experiences. This is what gave me the confidence to post.

I'm am no way confident to socialise in the real world. By posting on the forums, it gave me confidence to take those social skills to the outside world. It's been quite an interesting experience. Then there are times when my interactions in real life haven't worked out so I bring it to the forums to work out.

It's an interesting use for the forums, but it works!

There are some who are not very good with small talk in real life... I can assure you that it's the majoirty of us on these forums... hence we are using a text base platform!

@EzW , you're a 'senior contributor' once you've posted over 10 posts I think. So 1-3 posts, you are still a new contributor, then you move to casual, contributor then senior contributor. Hope that makes sense!

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

@tyme Thank you.  I'm warming up to the group.

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Take your time @EzW  🙂

Gotta start somewhere. Good on you for even giving this a go!

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

A little about me.  I'm a male in my mid 50s.  I think I've had anxiety and depression all of my life,  I was born with neurological issues, which were fairly mild, considering. In the last year or so, those issues have reared up, and I'm struggling to do the even the smallest of tasks, and my thinking and speech have been affected.

My father died in a car accident a few weeks before my younger brother was born.  I was mums 4th pregnancy, first child, which might explain my congenital issues, My life has been a back and forth between doctors, allied health and mental health professionals. Mum did the best she could, but she was a mess herself.

Now I'm looking at surgeries to hopefully fix some of the issues.  I can only imagine what "better" might be like, and I'm both excited and terrified of what might happen.

Struggling to keep my shit together! But trying my hardest,

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hi @EzW, it is really good to hear you tell your story! I am new here but have not shared as yet. I am a women in her 50s and has struggled with anxiety and depression all her life which has made for a very tiring experience. I have been functional and not depending on how challenged I have been from life. I hope the new treatment gives you some relief and it is the start of a step towards you having a better life.
Also it is really good to see a man post here as we know men struggle to reach out more for support and yet they are suffering too 😞
